I agree with you on the point of the chief executive getting such a payoff considering the state of st Michaels house, but you should check your facts on the day centre staff and not label a large group of people dishonest, they do a very difficult job with little thanks or acknowledgement from management, ..and as usual management giving out half truths and misinformation , previously day staff worked through their lunch hours during the week ,now they work a 39 hour week with the lunch hour taken during the day. They weren't being dishonest , they worked hours which were agreed to by St. Michaels house..

Thank you for sharing this story. My 20 month old son also has WS. I can totally relate to your description of that first year - the countless dr appointments and emergency visits and no one knew what was wrong. We are in a much better place now and I am so proud of my sweet little boy :)

This is outrageous, I really thought they would change things my daughter is down syndrome starting school in september with no guarantee of a full time SNA though all report recommend that she needs one.

regards,

That is an incredible story. You should go to a newspaper with it and shame them. How can people take that much money without feeling guilty? It's frankly disgusting.

Hi,
I agreee with all your comments. I am in the postion of trying to get my son who uses a wheelchair into secondary school in Galway. I have no family connections to assist me jump the enrolment queues and my son is no 78 on the waiting list for my school of choice which also happens to be the nearest to us. He has a place in a city school (because he attended the feeder primary school) and we are now in the process of trying to sort out physical access in an overcrowded school which has no onsite facilities at all except for classrooms, a pe hall and a car park.
The school I wanted him to get into wouldn't even discuss his needs unless he had a place and the other school are doing their best but he will be at a big disadvantage there as the school is overcrowded as it is. Why isn't there some sort of real help with enrolment of children with special needs rather than the cop out of saying all schools must accomodate special needs children and all schools must be accessible.

I have been using my son's iPad quite frequently to become familiar with the applications before purchasing one for myself. We decided to purchase the iPad for him due to his eyesight issues caused by Stickler's Syndrome and because it is lighter than the laptop he was carrying. I am mainly purchasing an iPad because I work at DISH Network and they already have the ability to LIVE stream content everywhere. DISH Network's subscription gives you the ability to watch content on smart phones and iPad wherever you go not just at home like Comcast proposes to do later this year. I invite you to learn more at www.dish.com/TVeverywhere.

"In spite of numerous promises from Fianna Fail and the Greens, much of the national disability strategy has not been implemented."
Are you sure that this is true?
